Narrative
Enigma codes- A mystery, for example a murder mystery.
Red Herrings-A false lead, someone who may get charged for a crime they didn't commit.
Main character tends to have an inexperienced sidekick- For example in Cuffs where Jake is new and his colleague is more experienced than him and thinks he only got the job because of his dad.
Cliffhanger at the end of the episode if not resolved- Something that is left not solved or completely finished, for example at the end of nearly every Eastenders episode they leave it on a cliffhanger.
A chase- when one character is trying to catch another, in cuffs, the police chase. 

Character 
Character Teamwork and pleasure in success- When the audience is pleasured when a certain team succeeds,Prison break when they break out of the prison.
Protagonist tends to have a major personality defect (alcoholic, gamber, failed marriage)- When the good guy has an unfortunate back story, the detective in cuffs, although he is helping lives he has a dark background we are yet to find out about. 




Gangster- Tv drama which focuses on lives of a gang, for example Peaky blinders.  
Police soap series-A never ending crime series focusing on the lives of the police officers, like the Bill. 
Cold case- Crimes which have taken place a long time ago, for example cold case.
Court room- A series all about lawyers trying a specific case, For example, the people against Oj Simpson.
Detective Dramas- Focuses on detectives investigating major crimes normally in one city, for example Criminal minds.
Serial killers- Focuses on a serial killer and his story, for example Bates motel.
Prison- Life in prison, all about the prisoners and there stories, for example Orange is the new black.
Investigative Detective and sidekick-Intriguing police officer and a boring sidekick .
Criminal- Focused on all kinds of criminals, for example how to get away with murder.
