Establishing shot

An Establishing shot in film making and television production sets up, or establishes the context for a scene by showing the relationship between its important figures and objects.

Its denotation is it shows the entire location or background of a scene.
It connotes where the action is taking place and also its atmosphere and pathetic fallacy. As well as that its what we infer from the image.

Long shot

A long shot typically shows the entire object or human figure and is usually intended to place it in some relation to its surroundings.

Its denotation is that the entire subject is in the shot but with some of the background information as well. Its connotations are there styles, it shows us what sort of person they are, it also shows us what there doing, by looking at there body language and facial expression.

Medium shot

Medium shots are used for dialogue sequences, and they allow the viewer to pick up on the persons movement and gestures. Body language is important to conveying emotion, and the medium shot remains close enough to capture that.

It denotes the subject from the waist up only. It connotes body language and how they feel.

A close up shot tightly frames a person or an object. Close ups are one of the standard shots used regularly with medium and long shots, cinematic techniques.

This shot denotes the subjects head and shoulder only. It connotes personality, feelings and emotions.

Extreme close up

It denotes just a small part of the subject, like an eye or there finger. It connotes tension and drama. It makes us feel uncomfortable. It builds the suspense.

Two shot

It denotes a shot of 2 people, usually from the waist up. Its connotation is the space between them, it explains how there feeling and there relationship status.

Over the shoulder shot

Its denotation is a shot looking over one persons shoulder at another person.It connotes the emotion of the conversation as well as the reaction of the other character.

Shot angels 

High angle

It denotes that the camera is above but also to the side of the subject showing some vertical and horizontal information. It connotes inferiority
and an establishing shot. It makes us feel powerless and small.

Straight on

It denotes that the camera is at the same level as the subject showing only horizontal information. It connotes normality and equality.

Low angle shot

This denotes that the camera is below and to the side of the subject showing some vertical and horizontal information. Connotation of authority and power, as well as dominance in the scene.

Over angle

It denotes that the camera is positioned directly above the subject, almost at a birds eye point of view or an extremely high angle.

Under angle

It denotes that the camera is positioned directly under the subject, at and extreme low angle. 

Canted angle

It denotes that the camera is turned left or right, so the subject appears at an odd angle, as if they are leaning to one side. It connotes an abstract vibe, fun, unimportance and that its unformal.

    The definitions you have provided use good examples and provide a solid definition. However, you have only completed around a third of the assignment. The rest needs to be done as soon as possible.

    To develop what is here, please leave a comment below analysing one of your example angles and one of your example shots. Denote the content of the shot and explain how the camera technique creates a connotation. Also, please include connote and denote in your definitions.

    2. Over angle shot denotes an asian boy wearing a red hat. It connotes power, us having the power and him being venerable . The canted angle denotes a plane flying at a side angle. It connotes a fun and abstract vibe.
