Introduction- my media summer

This summer I stayed in England and therefore was around to watch the new film Mamma Mia Here We Go Again. I was also more aware of the news going on around the world.

2018 the film of the summer was Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, a romantic musical jukebox comedy.  It is a follow up to the 2008 film Mama Mia based on the the music of Abba.  The film features an ensemble cast and is both a prequel and a sequel. The plot is set after the events of the first film and also features flashbacks telling the story of Donna Sheridan's arrival on the island of Greece and her first meetings with the 3 possible fathers of her daughter Sophie.  The film has been a box office success grossing $383 million worldwide and received generally positive reviews, with critics praising the performances and musical numbers.  I loved watching the film, it is a real feelgood, sing along film but with really sad moments too.

A really shocking sight for me was seeing the Morandi Bridge in Genoa in Italy literally broken in two.  This bridge carries a major road which serves the Italian Riviera and links Northern Italy to France. The poor people in their cars going about their normal lives came to a shocking end for some in a matter of seconds. The cause of the disaster is not yet fully known but it is thought that maintenance of the bridge may not have been carried out well enough, a design flaw or heavy traffic.  The picture that seemed like a scene from a film was the truck balancing on the edge of the bridge, literally between life and death.
